長毛兔的剪毛次數是有一定要求的，正常情況下一只長毛兔一年可剪四次左右。大約是每個季節剪毛一次，我們在剪毛的時候，要根據長毛兔的生長習性來。大約養毛3個月左右，兔毛可達到特級的程度。75天左右為一級，兩個月為二級。長毛兔對溫度的變化是比較敏感的，要保證兔舍冬暖夏涼。因此剪毛的時間一般可以在3、6、9、11月進行，這幾個月進行剪毛的話少可以獲得一級毛。

對長毛兔剪毛的時候更常用的就是用剪刀剪了。剪毛對技術要求也是比較高的，一般有著成熟剪毛技術的飼養人員。大約8分鐘左右便能夠剪一只兔子，在剪毛的時候是有一定順序的。要從長毛兔背部的中線開始剪，然后側面、屁股、脖子、頜下、肚子、四肢剪頭發。剪完毛之后要根據兔毛的長度、亮澤度等分好品質分別裝起來，更好是將毛絲的方向保持一樣。

我們在剪毛的時候，剪刀一定要緊貼著長毛兔的皮膚，不能夠將兔毛提起來剪。否則會傷到兔子的皮膚，尤其是一些皮膚不光滑的地方，還要防止剪刀剪破長毛兔的皮膚，導致受傷。然后我們要注意不可二次剪毛，意思就是如果次剪完后留茬比較高的話，那么也不可以再次修剪。避免短毛導致兔毛品質下降，影響第二次兔毛的正常剪毛。
